Summer checklist

June

• Tighten the filter schedule for cooling season
• Keep the condensate drain clear
• Hurricane season opens: stock the supplies
• Keep indoor humidity under 60 percent
• Expect drawers and doors to tighten up

July

• Give the outdoor unit two feet of clear air
• Use fans to raise the thermostat
• Test the outdoor and garage GFCIs before the pool pump and the power tools
• Look at the fire extinguisher

August

• Clean the dryer vent, all the way outside
• Inspect the washing machine hoses again
• Clean the refrigerator coils again
• Book the heating system's fall check-up now
• Re-read the storm plan: the Atlantic peak is coming

Every month

• Look at the furnace or air handler filter.
• Press the test button on every smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm.
• Press TEST, then RESET, on each GFCI outlet, and the TEST button on any AFCI breakers in the panel.
• Run water into any sink, tub or floor drain that does not get used.
