What the site is

The Trades Almanac is a general-interest reference about household systems and maintenance, published by Bellwether-Pacific LLC. It is written for homeowners and is offered as information, not as professional advice. Reading it does not create a client relationship with a plumber, electrician, HVAC technician, contractor, engineer or inspector, and nothing on it is a substitute for one.

Your house, your judgment

Houses differ, codes differ by jurisdiction and edition, and the same symptom can have different causes. Every page on the site says which steps are meant for a homeowner and which belong to a licensed professional. Work involving gas, electricity behind a cover plate or panel, refrigerant, pressure relief devices, structure or heights carries real risk of injury, death or property damage. If you are not certain you can do a step safely, do not do it. You are responsible for deciding what to attempt and for the results.

Where the site cites a code, a standard or a manufacturer’s instruction, the cited document controls, not our summary of it. Where your local code or your equipment’s manual says something different, follow those.

Accuracy

We work from sources we have read and list them on each page, and we correct errors when we find them or when readers point them out. Even so, the site is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. To the fullest extent the law allows, Bellwether-Pacific LLC and the people who write the site are not liable for any damages arising from the use of the site or reliance on anything in it.

We may update these terms; the effective date at the top will change when we do. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
