March
- Fix the dripping faucet (Fix a Leak Week)
- A shower that drips with the handle off needs a cartridge
- Change the clocks, change the alarm batteries
- Test the sump pump before snowmelt and spring rain
- Book the air conditioner's spring check-up
- Walk the outside of the house after winter
April
- Get the air conditioner or heat pump ready for summer
- Clean the gutters and check the downspouts
- Turn the outdoor water back on
- Walk the house for damp spots before the humid season
May
- Test every GFCI and AFCI, and look at the cords you use outdoors
- Check the deck before you put the furniture out
- Prepare for hurricane season (it starts June 1)
- Build defensible space around the house
- Switch ceiling fans to summer direction
- Fix the door that started sticking
Every month
- Look at the furnace or air handler filter.
- Press the test button on every smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm.
- Press TEST, then RESET, on each GFCI outlet, and the TEST button on any AFCI breakers in the panel.
- Run water into any sink, tub or floor drain that does not get used.
